FRINGE REVIEW: Dragula

A comedic and punny re-imagining from Guys in Disguise, Dragula roughly follows the story of the virginal victim (named Virginia Hymen, sometimes pronounced Vir-jy-nia, hilariously portrayed by Trevor Schmidt) being spirited away by a fe-vamp, Countess Dragula (often pronounced cunt-ess, perfectly played by Darrin Hagen) in order to become an undead bride (natch). The catch in this play is that Dragula is a female, and is being hunted by the old kraut Van Dick (har har). The puns and sexual innuendo are clever and entertaining, and the play is well acted (though Van Dick is sometimes too campy), paced and written. A must if you're a fan of drag, comedy and kitsch.

Four out of five stars.
