PIERCE AND RACHEL!
Married Life
CAST | Pierce Brosnan, Rachel McAdams, Chris Cooper, Patricia Clarkson

It’s a slow week in the theatres, and an even slower one on home video—a perfect occasion, if you ask The Dictator, to venture off the beaten path and sample Married Life.
This Sirkian thriller stars Chris Cooper as a buttoned-down 1950s businessman who feels so guilty over his plans to leave his wife for a younger woman (Rachel McAdams) that he decides to spare her the pain by killing her instead. Think Far From Heaven crossed with Dial M for Murder—not a bad combination!

HELEN AND COLIN!
Then She Found Me
CAST | Helen Hunt, Colin Firth, Bette Midler, Matthew Broderick

After winning the Oscar for Best Actress in 1998 for As Good As It Gets and starring in four high-profile films in 2000, Helen Hunt vanished from the big screen, and didn’t resurface until earlier this year with this comedy/drama based on Elinor Lipman’s midlife-crisis novel. Hunt directed and co-wrote the film, and stars as a New York teacher whose marriage ends at almost the same time that she reunites with her biological mother. Featuring a cameo by Salman Rushdie as Hunt’s gynecologist. This is not a misprint.

JIM AND PAM!
The Office: Season Four
CAST | Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson

God knows it’s heartwarming to see Jim and Pam finally dating (and even contemplating marriage—squee!), and the Dwight/Andy/Angela love triangle is entertainingly twisted, and the transformation of Ryan from browbeaten temp to evil corporate douchebag is absolutely delicious, but as far as The Dictator is concerned, Season Four’s pinnacle is the episode where Michael and Jan throw the most excruciatingly uncomfortable dinner party this side of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf
