RUBDOWN
Sunset Rubdown
Starlite Room • July 3
$15 | Ticketmaster
With six releases in four years with his latest group, Sunset Rubdown, no one can say that Spencer Krug hasn’t been busy. Fortunately his dogged, workhorse attitude is paying off big time with The Onion A.V. Club lionizing their proggy new album Dragonslayer. Of course, the bear-hug rapport Krug has developed with his other band Wolf Parade and collaborations with Swan Lake and Frog Eyes haven’t hurt him either. Hold on — is anyone else seeing an animal pattern developing here? It’s just us? Rats.

BREAKDOWN
Green Day
Rexall Place • July 6
$35.50 | Ticketmaster
What’s better than one rock opera? Well... two, at least according to Green Day, whose new album 21st Century Breakdown is their followup to 2004’s acclaimed American Idiot. Once again we follow a pair of disenfranchised characters, Christian and Gloria, as they wander through the boarded-up windows of strip-mall America — and while the songs may not be subtle (and the characters paper-thin), the disc is a refreshing, resonant antidote to the knee-jerk Obama-era optimism of artists like will.i.am.

LOWDOWN
Goatwhore
Starlite Room • July 7
TBA | Ticketmaster, Blackbyrd
For a moment there, we were going to toss this Hot Tix slot to those clean-cut Jonas Brothers (Rexall Place, July 2), or maybe that clear-skinned country cutie Taylor Swift (Commonwealth Stadium, July 9) — but we quickly threw those plans to one side when we saw Goatwhore was playing. Goatwhore, we salute your name, even though we’re unclear whether it refers to a streetwalking female goat, or a human prostitute whose clients are... well, horny in more ways than one. (The FAQ on their website is useless!)
