333...Not Quite The Mark Of The Beast | The darlings from Woodstock '94 hit up The Starlite.
One, Two...
Three
Starlite Room - Oct. 5 - 16 - Ticketmaster
Have you ever stopped and though about the number three? Well, if you haven't, let Wikipedia do the work for you: "We live in a three-dimensional universe on the third planet from the sun, experiencing time as past, present, and future in a form that consists of mind, body, and spirit." Pretty deep, eh? Almost as deep as the thoughts driving Joey Eppard to riffle out one mad guitar riff after another. Sill not convinced? Three's video for "All The Remains" came in at #16 in MTV's list of the top videos of 2007.
Flora & Fauna
Plants and Animals
Starlite Room - Oct. 7 - $15 - Ticketmaster
The redheaded stepchild who performs a wiggy stop-motion into on Plants and Animal’s official website can amuse you for hours. So can their music. There must be something in the water in Halifax that has helped the city pump out some of Canada’s top musical acts for more than two decades—remember Sloan, anyone? Warren C. Spencer and Matt “The Woodman” Woodley formed the group, but decided to import some Francophone flare via Nicolas Basque’s guitarwork and vocals. Think poutine covered in sea salt.
Visually Impaired
Blind Melon
Jet Nightclub - Oct. 4 - $16 - Ticketmaster
Travis Warren is doing a pretty solid job filling Shannon Hoon’s shoes as frontman for the band that reached stardom after the release of a music video featuring a tapdancing fat girl in a bee suit. Unfortunately, Hoon kicked the bucket in New Orleans In 1995 and the band has been trying to regain their former success ever since. At least they’ve been able to keep their original name despite rumored objections from politically correct critics. “Visually Impaired Fruit” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
