METALLIC MEAD
Iron & Wine
Myer Horowitz Theatre • Oct. 9
$24 | Ticketmaster
Not only does Samuel Beam look like a wild mountain man, but he also subscribes to the lifestyle of the primitive mountain people of the 1800s, who swore by such home remedies as the ever-versatile mustard poultice. Not convinced? Well, why else would Beam take his band name from a natural supplement called Beef Iron and Wine? Okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but whatever supplements he might be taking have helped churn out three albums, six EPs, and even a few films. Not too shabby for a savage.

UNDERDOG
Comeback Kid
Starlite Room • Oct. 11
$20 | Ticketmaster
How many times have we heard the tale of a half-serious side project turning into a full-time career for a group of small-time musicians? Constantly! But fortunately for this Manitoban quartet, underdog stories make us feel warm inside. They signed with Face Down Records in 2003 after releasing a demo tape, and by 2005 they had produced their first full-length album before switching over to Victory Records where they released Wake the Dead. Actually, Face Down to Victory is a good description of this group’s career.

HANZO STEEL
Ill Bill
Starlite Room • Oct. 15
$23.50 | Ticketmaster
Yo, yo. What is up, dog? Ill Bill is in the house, y’all, can I get a “what, what”? Wow, that was terrible. Maybe it’s a good idea to leave hip hop-speak to professionals like William Braunstein. The Brooklyn rapper/producer is taking a break from his production company to swing through town. It’s going to be a full house. So full, in fact, that the roof might even catch on fire. If that happens, we all know what to do — call the fire department and exit the premises in an orderly fashion. Seriously — who lets a roof burn?
