A Feisty Feast | Feist brings her national food drive to Rexall Place this Thursday.
SASSY
Feist
Rexall Place • Oct. 16
$39.50 | Ticketmaster
Leslie thinks it’s ridiculous that people are going hungry in a First World country like Canada. So she’s devised a feisty plan with the Canadian Association of Food Banks to fill the fridges and bellies of unfortunate Canucks. She’s asking everyone attending her show bring as much food as possible to donate to her worthy cause. Whether it’s cereal, cans of beans, Spam, or mayonnaise, every bit counts. And speaking of counting, did you see Feist singing “1-2-3-4” on Sesame Street? Wasn’t that adorable?
PIGGIES
SNFU
New City Compound • Oct. 17
$23 | Megatunes
Mr. Chi Pig has been saying “fuck you” with SNFU since 1982, and has become Edmonton’s biggest punk rock success story ever as a result. And though there will always be SNFU snobs willing to trash the band for running new members under the old banner we’re pretty sure Mr. Pig has a choice four-letter word for those party-pooping self-proclaimed “purists.” Maybe if these bullying naysayers had 14 albums under their belt, we might be able to take them seriously,
but we don’t.
DOGGY DAYS
Barney Bentall & Tom Wilson
Arden Theatre • Oct. 23
$35 | Ticketmaster
Tom Wilson has been cutting tracks for three decades, which is an impressive feat all on its own. However, what might be even more impressive is his recent decision to drop the self-destructive tendencies that he’s seen destroy plenty of talented artists before him. Support from friends certainly helps to kick those dirty habits, and considering Wilson’s penchant for group projects, we think he has a good shot at making it through to the brighter side. Good on you, Tom.
