ROAD TRIP
Boonstock
Gibbons • July 4-5
$68-$103 | Ticketmaster.ca
If you’re in the habit of listening to mainstream rock radio—or if you have a coworker who blasts The Bear through the office on a daily basis—chances are you’ll know every single lyric sung at Boonstock this weekend. The two-day lineup includes Alexisonfire, ever-emo Three Days Grace, ill Scarlett, State of Shock, GOB, Sloan, Default, Mobile, plus local top 40 sweethearts Tupelo Honey and Ten Second Epic. It may not be your typical hippie music fest, but they did try to find a way to name it after Woodstock.
RING ROAD
Ashes Divide
Starlite Room • July 7
$20 | Ticketmaster.ca
For those of you lamenting the death of A Perfect Circle (we’re sure there are at least one or two of you out there), the brain behind said outfit, Billy Howerdel, has gone and started up another melodic alt-rock project. This time around, instead of borrowing vocals from Tool’s Maynard Keenan, Howerdel thought it would be better to borrow Keenan’s son Devo to play cello on the band’s debut release, Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright. Isn’t that nice? Way to keep it in the family, Howerdel.
DRIVE HARD
Lisa Lashes & BK
Edmonton Event Centre • July 10
$28 | Ticketmaster.ca
A pioneer of the UK hard house scene and the first woman to break into the list of the world’s top-ranked DJs, Lisa Lashes is still a techno force to be reckoned with. West Edmonton Mall is one of three stops she’ll be making on the Polysexual Canada tour (the others being Cowtown and Vancouver), so if you’ve got some energy to burn next Thursday night, it might be a good time to dodge all the fresh-outta-high-school kiddies lounging around the food court and get thee to the dancefloor.
