AERIAL THEATRE
FIREFLY GETS RENEWED!
Firefly Theatre has been around for five years now, and amazingly, no one in the acrobatic aerial troupe has broken their neck yet. And thank God for that: their remarkable shows—which include Primordial Blues and, most recently, Duck Duck Bang—have a sense of vertiginous spectacle that’s unique in local theatre. They’re putting on a special vaudeville show called Fly By Night from February 22-23 at La Cité Francophone: the bill includes ukulele duo The Be Arthurs, magician Ron Pearson, and founding Firefly Annie Dugan zooming recklessly above their heads. Don’t worry, though: she’ll be perfectly safe.

FUNNY LADIES
DRESSED FOR SUCCESS
“Women Fully Clothed”? They expect to sell tickets with that title? Actually, they’ll probably sell plenty, thank you very much—this evening of sketches features five of Canada’s most respected funnywomen, including King of Kensington star Jayne Eastwood, SCTV/Saturday Night Live double-dipper Robin Duke, and Teresa Pavlinek, and Colin Mochrie bride Debra McGrath. “Watching these amazingly talented women made me realize what a fraud I am!” raved My Big Fat Greek Wedding star Nia Vardalos—well, we suppose she had to find out somehow. The show takes place February 27 at the Jube.

ARTSPEAK
INCOMPREHENSIBLE ARTIST’S STATEMENT OF THE WEEK
“Stephan Wiebe utilizes broken plywood to reveal the fragmentation and incompleteness of our memories.... As individuals, we employ to write our own narrative in ways by which we perceive and understand ourselves as delicate creations formed by important and mundane events, some of which are experienced through photographs, stories, or myths. Antecedents situates Wiebe’s personal narrative visually, although not constrained by the truth.” —from the press release for Antecedents, on display from February 22-March 22 at Latitude 53
