Majestik affair
Unmissable opportunities north and south

Three cheers for Majestik. Once again the local club is leading the way in offering variety and fun in a tough-sell club culture environment. The club is putting on Edmonton’s first annual Dance Culture Expo, with which it plans to cover every aspect of club life: from dancers to clothes to DJing and producing. It all starts early Saturday, September 14 (noon is early in club-land) with beer gardens and other activities. It’s an indoor/outdoor all-day-long event.

Besides tons of great Alberta DJs, including Cary Chang, Bobby Torpedo, Tryptomene, Dragon, Crunchee, Charlie Mayhem, Neal K, Jaw-Dee, Donovan, Celcius and Bounce, there will be a multi-store fashion show. Down the runway you’ll spot the latest and hottest items available from dance culture shops in town.

For the up-and-coming DJs and producers there will workshops and demos for scratching and production. Also, there will be a chance to meet promoters to discuss your party plans with and get some excellent tips from. It will also be a great place to pick up new and used vinyl and gear!

Besides the technical side of things, there will be plenty of other entertainment including Dunk the DJ and live art by Mode Sensory Gear.

The jam-packed day comes to a peak courtesy of one very special guest: America’s DJ NRG will slap down his funky house to round out the party until three in the morning. This is happening? Here? Incredible.

Head down to Majestik at 10123—112 Street.

BK DJ UK

If you happen to be in Calgary the weekend of September 14, don’t worry. Even if you can’t make it to Majestik’s Expo, then at least you can catch a great double-header at the Warehouse (733 10th Ave. SW). Goodfellas Entertainment is putting on a show featuring BK (U.K.) and Mike Downey (U.S.).

BK (a.k.a Ben Keen) is arguably the undisputed number one hard-house DJ on the planet. He’s known as the godfather of hard house, a leading producer and as a DJ in high demand for his skills on the decks. The Calgary show is one of only two Canadian dates for this superstar.

If you want to see him live, go, because he probably won’t be back this way any time soon. His people, Nukleuz and Damn! Management, have him booked solid until at least next summer.

As if this weren’t enough of a show, as a bonus you’ll get to see world-renowned hard trance maniac Mike Downey. Expect to hear a speakerful from this crowdpleaser’s cutting-edge record collection. Find out why he’s earned the nickname "Knock ‘em Downey." Locals Pauly Dee & Anthem will share the stage. This is an 18-plus after-hours club event with the doors opening at 3 a.m.
